Linwood and Martin Lakes are located in northwestern Anoka County, near the towns of Bethel and Stacy, Minnesota. Linwood Lake, with a surface area of 568 acres, is among the top five percent of lakes in the state in terms of size; while Martin Lake, with a surface area of 207 acres, is among the top ten percent. Linwood Lake has a maximum depth of 42 feet and a mean depth of 9.3 feet while Martin Lake has a maximum depth of 20 feet and mean depth of 11.2 feet. The watershed for Linwood Lake is approximately 6 square miles (3,915 acres). Land use in Linwood Lake's direct watershed is characterized primarily by forested (34 percent) and water/marsh (22 percent) uses. Martin Lake's direct-watershed is about half the size of Linwood Lakes's at about 3.5 square miles. The total watershed for Martin Lake is considerably larger, 31.5 square miles, and includes runoff from its own direct watershed as well as Linwood Lake, Island Lake, Typo Lake. Land use within Martin Lake's direct-watershed is very similar to Linwood Lake's with forested and water/marsh uses being most prominent at 38 and 37 percent, respectivley. These values are slightly higher when compared to other lake watersheds in this region of the state – North Central Hardwood Forests (NCHF) ecoregion.
