Final Township Testing Nitrate Report: Lac Qui Parle County 2019-2020

Document
Description
The goal of nitrate monitoring and assessment is to develop a comprehensive understanding of the severity, magnitude, and long-term trends of nitrate in groundwater as measured in public and private wells. The MDA established the Township Testing Program to determine current nitrate concentrations in private wells on a township scale. This program is designed to quickly assess a township in a short time window. Monitoring focuses on areas of the state where groundwater nitrate contamination is more likely to occur. This is based initially on hydrogeologically vulnerable areas where appreciable acres of agricultural crops are grown. More than 90,000 private well owners have been offered nitrate testing in 344 townships since 2013. In 2019, five townships in Lac Qui Parle County were selected to participate in the Township Testing Program.
