Blue Earth River Watershed Characterization Report

The Blue Earth River watershed (Hydrologic Unit Code [HUC] 07020009) covers 1,565 square miles in south-central Minnesota and north-central Iowa. The Blue Earth River begins in northern Iowa and flows north to the Minnesota River, collecting water from the Watonwan River and Le Sueur River HUC 8 watersheds; together forming the Greater Blue Earth River Basin. In 2017, intensive watershed assessment and monitoring began to characterize the health of the Blue Earth River HUC 8 watershed.
