Lake Assessment Program - Ban Lake, St. Louis County

Ban Lake is located east of Orr Minnesota in northern St. Louis County, within the headwaters of the Vermilion River watershed. The lake has a surface area of 380 acres, and is considered a shallow lake, with most of lake less than 10 feet deep. The Ban Lake watershed encompasses approximately 3100 acres. Land cover is primarily coniferous and deciduous forest, and wetlands (Table 1). Ban Lake was chosen for study by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency as a case study lake in northeast Minnesota to monitor the environmental impact of lakeshore development.""
