Lake Assessment Program - White Iron, Farm and Garden Lakes, St. Louis and Lake Counties

Document
Description
White Iron, Farm, and Garden Lakes were sampled during the summer of 1996 as part of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's (MPCA) Lake Assessment Program. Data collected during the study period showed that in terms of total phosphorus, chlorophyll and Secchi disk transparency, the water quality of White Iron Chain of Lakes is equal to or better than minimally impacted (reference) lakes in the ecoregion. Mean summer concentrations are as follows: total phosphorus 29, 23, and 22 ?g/1, chlorophyll-a 4.1, 4, and 5.9 ?g/1 and mean Secchi disk transparency was 1.4, 1.9, and 1.6 meters, respectively. Based on these water quality values the White Iron Chain of Lakes would be considered mesotrophic to almost eutrophic.
