Lake Assessment Program 1986 - Swan Lake, Itasca County, Minnesota

Document
Description
Extensive monitoring conducted in 1986 detailed the amount of water and phosphorus entering and leaving Swan Lake. Phosphorus was extensively studied, since this substance usually controls the amount of aquatic plants. Also, phosphorus is the only aquatic plant nutrient that is generally amenable to controls. Swan Lake's watershed was divided into seven subwatersheds. The amount of water and phosphorus leaving each subwatershed was calculated based upon the detailed monitoring. The amounts of water and phosphorus reaching Swan Lake were then estimated for low to high annual flow conditions (dry to wet years.)
