Lake Assessment Program 1992 - Pelican Lake, Grant County, Minnesota

Document
Description
The analysis of water quality data collected during the study period indicates that Pelican Lake falls within Hyper-eutrophic to eutrophic classification of lakes within the State. Hyper-eutrophic lakes can be described as extremely nutrient rich lakes (phosphorus and\\or nitrogen) that have limited oxygen available in the hypolimnion (bottom layer of water) when the lake is stratified, and are subject to frequent nuisance algal blooms. The mean total phosphorus concentration of Pelican Lake was approximately 35 ug/L (parts per billion). The mean Secchi disk reading during the summer was 1.5 feet. Based on this data severe nuisance algal blooms (chlorophy11 a >30ug/L) could occur approximately 50 percent of the time.
