Description
Groundwater reviews are detailed reports on the condition of groundwater within the boundaries of one of the 81 major surface watersheds in Minnesota. This approach follows the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) focus on watersheds as the starting point for water quality assessment, planning, implementation and measurement of the watershed's condition. Though groundwater and surface watersheds do not always coincide, this method of investigating the condition of the hydrologic resource as a watershed unit can be usefully applied to groundwater because groundwater and surface water are dynamically linked. This linkage will be explored and explained in this report through the use of the water cycle, tracing the movement of water through the watershed from precipitation to runoff, recharge to withdrawal, and to conclude with evapotranspiration.
