Dixon Lake 31-0921-00 Lake Water Quality

Document
Description
Dixon Lake is located 40 miles northwest of Grand Rapids, MN in Itasca County. It is just north of Lake Winnibigoshish, and covers 622 acres (Table 1). Dixon Lake has five inlets and one outlet, which classify it as a drainage lake. The main inlet is the Third River, which enters Dixon Lake on the northwest shore. The Third River exits the lake to the south, and eventually flows into Lake Winnibigoshish. Water quality data have been collected on Dixon Lake since 1981 (Tables 2 & 3). These data show that the lake is eutrophic (TSI = 56) with moderately clear water conditions most of the summer and algae blooms towards the end of summer.
