Description
Chippewa Lake is located northeast of Brandon, MN in Douglas County. It is relatively large and covers 1,175 acres. Chippewa Lake has three inlets and one outlet, which classify it as a drainage lake. The inlets and outlet are on the south end of the lake. The Chippewa River starts in Chippewa Lake and flows south to join the Minnesota River at Montevideo. Water quality data have been collected on Chippewa Lake since 1946. These data show that the lake is at the mesotrophic, which is characteristic of moderately clear water throughout the summer and excellent recreational opportunities. The mission of the Big Chippewa Lake Association is to promote the interests of the lakeshore owners, to serve as a resource on issues of individual and common concern and to promote education. The Association is involved in many activities including water quality monitoring, education, website maintenance, and is a member of the Douglas County Lakes Association (DCLA).
