East Loon Lake 56-0523-00 Lake Water Quality

East Loon Lake is located at the town of Vergas, MN in Otter Tail County. It is winding with many bays covering 1,044 acres (Table1). East Loon Lake has no inlets or outlets, which classifies it as a groundwater seepage lake. Lakes without outlets can be subject to large swings in water level. Water quality data have been collected on East Loon Lake since 1999 (Tables 2 & 3). These data show that the lake is mesotrophic (TSI = 42) with moderately clear water conditions most of the summer and excellent recreational opportunities. The East Loon Lake Association is involved in many activities, including water quality monitoring, and is a member of the Otter Tail Coalition of Lake Associations (COLA).
