East Smith 31-0616-00 Lake Water Quality

East Smith is located 6.2 miles southeast of Marcell, MN in Itasca County and is 152 acres (Table 1). East Smith has no inlets or outlets, which classify it as a groundwater seepage lake. Because it is groundwater fed, Horseshoe could be affected by varying water levels from year to year. Water quality data have been collected on East Smith from 1998-2015 (Tables 2 & 3). These data show that the lake is mesotrophic (TSI = 42) with moderately clear water conditions most of the summer and excellent recreational opportunities. There is no organized lake association for East Smith Lake at this time.
