Description
This TMDL implementation plan is the result of input from local stakeholders, the Pomme de Terre (PdT) River Association Joint Powers Board, and a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) consisting of local Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD), Local Water Managers, Local Planning and Zoning, Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Board of Water and Soil Resources, United States Fish and Wildlife Services, and Prairie Country and WesMin Resource Conservation and Development. The fecal coliform bacteria impaired reach of the Pomme de Terre River is the last reach of the river before it enters the Minnesota River at Marsh Lake. Since it is the mouth of the river, the entire watershed contributes to its impairment and therefore a watershed wide approach will be utilized. The supporting TMDL data shows a strong positive correlation between precipitation and fecal coliform bacteria concentrations. According to the TMDL, exceedance of 200 cfu per 100 ml occurred primarily during rain events which points to the weather-driven sources.
